Why the dog hates me: Holiday edition

Thursday, October 22

New day, new puppy challenges

I'm learning new things about the dog each day.

Friday, October 16

He works, I keep the puppy

Me and the puppy hang out all the time - really.

Tuesday, October 13

Handing over the puppy

The puppy is going to live with her daddy.

Monday, October 12

Does this thing ever stop pooping?

No one told me that puppy equals poop machine.

It appears that all the puppy does is eat and poop.

And she keeps doing it in the house, where I have to clean it up.

I've already gone through the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday newspaper. Boy, I'm glad the Sunday paper is still in the recycling bin.

I must be doing something wrong. I'm not cut out to do this. Perhaps I should take the puppy back to where I got it from.

The journey to get a puppy

I had to go to the country to find us a puppy.

Saturday, October 10

The search for a perfect puppy

We didn't get the $400 puppy.

It just wasn't in the budget. We had to look for something more . . . reasonable.

So, the hunt was on for the perfect puppy.

In Pennsylvania, my main squeeze waited for me to call with some good news on the hunt for a dog.

Is it always this difficult?

The plan to get a dog came out of no where.

We were driving to the library when we saw a sign "LAB PUPPIES 4 SALE."

In the passenger seat, my main squeeze was moving around like one of those cartoon beans. He was so excited.

It was raining, and a really drab day. I don't know what possessed me at that moment to say what I did, but said, "Let's stop in and have a look at them."

I shocked myself. I'm not sure who just said that. I think that I just told my man we could look at puppies together.

Have I lost my mind?

I looked at him and realized I was crazy, because I was in love with this guy, and I wanted to do anything I could to make him happy.

So, we went to look at puppies.

The little, blue-eyed Labs were the stuff of Kodak photos. They were so cute and friendly.

But they were $400 - each.

Yes, you read that right. They cost as much as my car payment.

How did I get here?

I like cats.

I have two - Seven and Mo. We had a quiet, lazy life until we met him.

My main squeeze is a fiery Irish man who loves life, his children and dogs.

That's right - the man likes dogs.

It's not that I don't like dogs, I just never really wanted one.

Every time he would hint that our future togehter could include a dog, I'd change the subject.

I didn't want a dog. I was happy with the cats. They don't need to be walked, they don't destroy things, they don't get fleas and they're just not dogs.

But those eyes got me - not the dog's, but his. Those eyes pleaded with me for the dog that I knew he wanted, so we got a dog.

Scratch that - I got a dog, and what a journey it was.
